Seismic Resilience and Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings (SREEPB)
The Aim of the Project

The overall objective of the Earthquake Resistance and Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings Project is to retrofit public buildings (education buildings, dormitories, hospitals and administrative buildings), which are inefficient in terms of energy use and at high risk of earthquakes, against earthquakes and ensure energy efficiency.

It is proposed to monitor progress towards the Project Development Objective through the following indicators: (a) number of beneficiaries of public buildings retrofitted against earthquake and disaster risks; (b) projected lifetime energy savings from energy efficiency investments in central government buildings; and (c) percentage of Project beneficiaries (disaggregated by gender) reporting improvements in building safety and comfort levels.

The Project will support earthquake and disaster resilience and energy efficiency improvements in buildings owned or associated with the central government through retrofitting and renovation or demolition and reconstruction.

The project aims to identify the efficiency potentials of existing public buildings with different uses, to make improvements in terms of energy efficiency, to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions, to monitor and control energy consumption, to close the current account deficit caused by energy, and to develop the sector and raise awareness by creating a model for making all public buildings in Turkey energy efficient after the project.

Project Objectives

The overall objective of the Earthquake Resistance and Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings Project is "to increase the earthquake resistance and safety of central government buildings in Turkey and to improve their energy efficiency performance".
